An exciting time was had by those of us who ventured out our bikes for our first ever cycle hike.
The Cubs (and 1 Scout) gathered at Reigate Hill with great excitement. Everyone was eager to get started as Akela gave out maps and OS map symbol cards for the map reader's activity. The cubs also posed for a photoshoot at the first map point with the South Downs providing a very pretty backdrop.
Cycling through the puddle was great fun for the kids but Julie didn't look quite as keen. Maybe she was worried about getting the stains out when she got home.
We encountered several Coal Posts as we cycled through the woods. If you want to know what these are then ask Des. He was here when Queen Victoria had them put up!
Lunch was shared with a load of ducks and geese. There was a lot of squawking and cackling but that was mainly from the kids.
Everyone made it home safely although Akela had to push some of them up the last gentle hill but the stragglers all made it back in one piece although there was a lot of groaning and complaining that of exhaustion. However, five minutes of rest and they were all whizzing around the car park like demons. Oh to have the recovery power of youth....
Specially big THANKS to Rino for bringing his trailer along and congratulations to Joseph, Olivia and Andrew for winning the navigation competition - however they had the advantage of a girl in their team.
Another load of badges to hand out to those who earned them...
