Cubs Autumn Hike - 2009

aP1010964.jpgAnother day of glorious weather was organised by Akela for us to go for a local hike. We travelled by bus to Selsdon which in itself was an adventure as some of the boys had never been on a bus before and many had never been upstairs!

It was very gratifying to see the smiles on the faces of the other passengers as they listened to the pack chattering in excitement, I suppose that they are more used to cowering in peril!

The first stop was to pose by the Bear at the Selsdon Woods car park for a group photograph. Second stop was to collect sweet chestnuts in the woods.

aP1010977.jpgAfter 6 miles of hard slog all the Cubs were exhausted so we stopped for a short break at the Riddlesdown quarry. However, after a huge 30 second break, the kids were up and running around playing a wide game. I don’t know what was in their packed lunches but the source of energy should be bottled for us older people.

Overall, the hike covered just under 7 miles and took us 5 hours to complete. A good effort so well done the Cubs.

Must not forget a final hurrah for the wonderful cake and tea provided for us by Maria.
