Home Cubs Cub Activities 2011 Cub Camp

2011 Cub Camp

Thankfully we were blessed with fine weather this year which allowed the Cubs to carry out a full programme of activities at Broadstone Warren.

Camp started on Friday night with a quick unpacking exercise followed by setting up tents and a night hike. This was all part of a vain attempt to exhaust the kids into sleeping!!

After splitting up the kids into two sixes the campsite was duly setup - fairly quickly considering that most of them had never put up a patrol tent before. A quick snack and we went straight into a 4 mile night hike organised by Des. We had to make a slight detour because of thunder and lightning so we made it safely back to our warm beds a little earlier than planned. While the adults tried to recover from the hard work of the day the kids decided to have a midnight feast.

The next day saw a whole load of activies starting with a game of football. As usual this was punctuated by much cheating and drama as the kids emulated their favourite Premier League stars

A very traditional and popular activity at cub camp is Archery

This year we decided to do grass sledging which turned out to be extremely popular. The kids dared themselves to go faster each time but the adults were quite relaxed knowing that there was a gravel trap to prevent injuries.

The Cube is a very high set of activities requiring safety harnesses and a very good head for heights. Surprisingly all the Cubs managed to have a go at it!!

Sunday was a much more gentle day with just a couple of prepaid activities.

For a start we had the delicate art of Sumo Wrestling which is not as graceful as it looks!

In the afternoon Canon Frank came to camp and celebrated mass in the woods with us. Quite wonderful to do this in a perfect setting in the Cathedral under the Sky.

Finally, in keeping with tradition, we held our closing ceremony with awards for the boys who all achieved something memorable over the weekend.
